Dr. Kai Burrus
Dr. Burrus is conducting ongoing research in the area of developmental biology and is a co-leader of NSF ADVANCE and HHMI-Inclusive Excellence grants. Her work on the ADVANCE grant centers on creating a restorative mechanism by which the institution can better hear and respond to bias-related complaints made by faculty and staff. In contrast, her work on the Inclusive Excellence grant is focused on cultivating upper-division biology major students of color as leaders, role models, and partners with faculty in transforming upper-division biology classrooms. Dr. Burrus is also actively involved with Lifting Black Voices in STEM and is leading an effort to launch an interdisciplinary Certificate in Climate Change Causes, Impacts, and Solutions.
